| Students.... If you are here as a potential student, you are in the right place! We offer a comprehensive course taught by highly trained artists who are experts in their field! We are proud to say that the Federal Government has certified us to teach veterans in need of new career training. It is an honor and privilege to be in that position and we take it seriously. There has never been more opportunity in the tattooing field then now, but keep in mind their has never been such excellence in the field and only the truly dedicated will succeed! There is more to being an accomplished tattoo artist then most would imagine. While the practice of tattooing can be learned by most anyone, a strong understanding of basic art skills is a must to be a good tattoo artist. If you have an art background you are a step ahead, if not, we can help you with learning skills such as light and shadow, perspective, composition, color blending etc. The most important knowledge you will take with you is Basic Sterile Technique (the practice of Universal Precautions). You will be working in a field that subjects you as well as your clients to blood born pathogens. Above all else public and personal safety must be maintained! No matter which of our courses is best suited to your needs, you will be purchasing our three course books (The Big Book of Tattooing, Basic Sterile Technique & How to Open and Operate Your Own Tattoo Studio). If you choose not to come to class, these books are a highly recommended tool for any future artist in this field! Purchasing these books before attending class, will provide you with a basic understanding of Terms, Equipment, methods and techniques allowing immediate hands on rather then text book training. Becoming a journeyman in this profession does not happen over night. No class can prepare you by itself to start tattooing professionally. Each student will learn according to his or her own natural ability, dedication to study and practice, and ability to be self motivated. This can take many months or even years. It all depends on you! However these books and our classes will save you countless hours of research drawing from our years of experience. The many mistakes of trial and error can now be avoided! Any school can potentially teach a new artist to create a passable tattoo, but passable is not acceptable in this profession. You are working on clients who will wear your art for the rest of their lifetime and deserve the best possible work you can provide. Until your skill is at a high level, you are not ready to tattoo professionally. DON'T BE FOOLED! We have seen advertisements that claim to offer all that is needed to open your own studio and tattoo professionally within weeks. Don't believe them, it's not possible! We have also heard arguments from veteran tattoo artists that tattooing can only be taught through the traditional method of apprenticing in an established studio. While it is a great opportunity to learn on a daily basis under a skilled artist, and greatly encouraged by us if you find a spot, that opportunity escapes most potential artists, as there are not enough apprentice spots open to meet the demand of those wishing to learn. Also many students do not have the time or finances to allow for apprenticeship. It is our belief that those who would discourage other learning methods are really looking out for their own wallet, with more new artists being trained and entering the field, prices will be more competitive as new artists are often willing to work for less then established artists. This is called free enterprise, don't let anyone discourage you from per suing your dream. Their insecurities are their own problem not yours. It does not take scrubbing someones tools, floors and toilets for six months to break into this field! Consider any other profession, from Graphic Artist to Brain Surgeon, there are courses or schools in which to train. We have taught several friends or acquaintances who went on to run their own studios or work for established studios. Since officially including our school in our business, we currently have two students, One who attends class with us three days a week sent by the Veterans Administration, and one who has come a day or two every few weeks as time and finances allow, she has just acquired a part time position in a studio near her home as an apprentice tattoo artist. We are proud of both students progress! Please take a look at their testimonials and photos as we post them. Within a short time they will be welcome to work at our studio charging a reduced student rate as they complete their training. We are committed to helping each and every student take with them the skills, that with practice, will provide them a great career as well as the information needed to open a successful studio of their own. Our students success will be our success as teachers and it is our hope that they go far in the field . We wish them great success and personal reward in their accomplishments! If you are not fortunate enough to find a shop to take you on as an apprentice, we believe that we are the next best thing to start you on your way. We do wish that everyone could afford to come on a daily basis for an extended period, but realize this is not possible for most. A large portion of your training can be done at home, such as drawing skills, tracing, stenciling practice tattooing (not on people!), creating and collecting flash (tattoo designs), book study, research etc. Practice, motivation and patience are of the utmost importance!! We have several different time frames in which we are willing to teach. All based on your time, location and finances. Please check out our schedules and prices to find what best suits your needs. As with any of our services feel free to contact us with questions or concerns either by email, phone or please do visit us in person! Best of luck in pursuing your dreams! The Art Angels Staff |
